My new album 'Call of the Wild and Void' is now available for pre-order at the fine folks at @normanrecs! 💙 With a lovely write-up: Short: 'Hunter Complex blends piano-led ambience and kosmische electronics into a reflective voyage shaped by sea air, solitude and widescreen synth textures.' Full: 'Hunter Complex returns with Call of the Wild and Void, a set of atmospheric electronics shaped by piano, synths and a cast of guest players including Aquiles Navarro and new age flautist Kat Epple. The project of Dutch musician Lars Meijer, the album builds on the organic feel of earlier releases Airports and Ports, Dead Calm and Zero Degrees and Open Sea, folding live instrumentation into his expansive electronic sound. Meijer places piano at the centre of these recordings, reconnecting with the lo-fi work he made in the 1990s while maintaining the futuristic pulse of his synthesiser-driven compositions. Natural imagery runs throughout the album, with the sea and shifting landscapes used as reflections on stillness, distance and inner calm. Artwork comes from Andrew Crawshaw for Broken Press.' But thanks to my piano parts, this album has become even more human, without losing the futuristic sound of the synthesizers, because that is still the foundation of my music. The original version of 'I Never Came up for Air' by @aloneinthewoodsny was released by Burning Witches Records on the 'Communion' compilation lp on Record Store Day in April 2018. My remix of this brilliant track was released ahead of that release. There's a Roland D50 synth sound in there that Michael Jackson used on 'Man in the Mirror' and there's a reference to the track 'Kiss of Life' by 00s synthpoppostpunkband Friendly Fires. In anticipation of my new album 'Call of the Wild In anticipation of my new album 'Call of the Wild and Void', coming out in June 2026 on @sfi_records, I'll be releasing some rarities on streaming services. 'The Magic Window' is a radio session I recorded for The Magic Window radio show hosted by Letters from Mouse on Mad Wasp Radio. It was recorded over the course of four days in August 2020. It was inspired by the apocalyptic state of the world during COVID-19 and the tv show 'Years and Years'. it uses samples (and artwork!) from the documentary 'Alone in the Wilderness' from 2004 about Dick Proenneke, who moved to Alaska in 1967 to build a cabin in the middle of the wilderness. He lived there for thirty years. The title for my fourth album 'Dead Calm and Zero Degrees' was also taken from this documentary. Enjoy! Mastered by @burningtapesmastering. Links in story & bio!

This remix of The King by Haarlem-based band @greylotusnl from their album Nektar (2018) was unreleased until now! The only thing I took from the original were the wonderful harmonies of singers Judith Wesselius and @joost_verhagen and the flugelhorn played by @abrieltrumpet. The horses you hear are the actual horses on the cover, recorded in Westergeest in Friesland. Seems fitting to release this one with the No Kings protests happening in the US.
