Call of the Wild and Void is the sixth studio album by Hunter Complex and arrives 3 July 2026 on the Seattle-based label SFI Recordings. It features contributions from Aquiles Navarro (trumpet), new age legend Kat Epple (flute) and many more. Call of the Wild and Void is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed albums Airports and Ports (Burning Witches, 2022), Dead Calm and Zero Degrees (Burning Witches, 2020) and Open Sea (Death Waltz, 2019).

Hunter Complex is the moniker of Dutch artist Lars Meijer. ‘On this album, my piano plays a big part again, like it did on my lo-fi work in the 90s. Airports and Ports from 2022 already sounded a lot more organic because guest musicians played trumpet, flute and guitar on it. But thanks to my piano parts, this album has become even more human, without losing the futuristic sound of the synthesizers, because that is still the foundation of my music. The album captures a quest for inner peace, using natural phenomena, nature and especially the sea as metaphors.’

In anticipation of my new album 'Call of the Wild and Void', coming out in July 2026 on @sfi_records, I'll be releasing some rarities on streaming services.

The original version of 'I Never Came up for Air' by @aloneinthewoodsny was released by Burning Witches Records on the 'Communion' compilation lp on Record Store Day in April 2018. My remix of this brilliant track was released ahead of that release. There's a Roland D50 synth sound in there that Michael Jackson used on 'Man in the Mirror' and there's a reference to the track 'Kiss of Life' by 00s synthpoppostpunkband Friendly Fires. What happened to them?

In anticipation of my new album 'Call of the Wild and Void', coming out in June 2026 on @sfi_records, I'll be releasing some rarities on streaming services.

'The Magic Window' is a radio session I recorded for The Magic Window radio show hosted by Letters from Mouse on Mad Wasp Radio. It was recorded over the course of four days in August 2020. It was inspired by the apocalyptic state of the world during COVID-19 and the tv show 'Years and Years'. it uses samples (and artwork!) from the documentary 'Alone in the Wilderness' from 2004 about Dick Proenneke, who moved to Alaska in 1967 to build a cabin in the middle of the wilderness. He lived there for thirty years. The title for my fourth album 'Dead Calm and Zero Degrees' was also taken from this documentary. Enjoy!

In anticipation of my new album 'Call of the Wild and Void', coming out in June 2026 on @sfi_records, I'll be releasing some rarities on streaming services.

This remix of The King by Haarlem-based band @greylotusnl from their album Nektar (2018) was unreleased until now! The only thing I took from the original were the wonderful harmonies of singers Judith Wesselius and @joost_verhagen and the flugelhorn played by @abrieltrumpet. The horses you hear are the actual horses on the cover, recorded in Westergeest in Friesland. Seems fitting to release this one with the No Kings protests happening in the US.

9-10. Beaulieu-sur-Mer
11-12 'Honest man' scene with Prince and Tricky outside (Place Rossetti, Nice)
13-16: Prince and Tricky at the bar for the 'bats!' scene at Mantraah (formaly known as Le Romarin). Very nice owner who was surprised that I knew this scene of the movie was shot here (thanks @edgarkruize!), but was also proud and showed me where the scene took place (2 Place de la Halle aux Herbes, Nice)
17-19: One more visit to the flower market (Marché Aux Fleurs on Cours Saleya, Nice)
20: an actual wrecka stow (in Nice!) where I picked up some Michel Colombier, Eric Serra and Cowboy Junkies. No Sam Cooke, sorry...

Two improvised tracks from 2019 recorded close to oneanother in a vibrant burst of creativity. 'The Sea Without an Edge' was released on a Bandcamp compilation to benefit @madwaspradio, compiled by Letters from Mouse, host of the Magic Window radio show. 'Sweet Dreams' remained unreleased, until now!
